The deep work guru Cal Newport, who also coined the term, has a podcast called Deep Questions - I listen to it to get motivation and as a reminder on the importance of deep work. He also has written books on the subject.

Yes, Cal Newport's podcast is a source of inspiration for some of the topics covered in this newsletter. I am yet to read Deep Work, but I read Slow Productivity this year and it has changed how I think about work and life.

I often prefer meetings to Slack for this reason. I've seen a discussion that could have been a 30 minute meeting turn into an 8 hour Slack discussion. It killed the whole day for an entire team.

I agree. If you want to make true progres on a task, the best to do it is by getting together and figuring things out on the spot. Whiteboard sessions over asynchronous communication every time.

Many routine tasks that do not add significant value to the project end up consuming a team's productivity.

If each of us applied these excellent tips to our daily work, our productivity would not increase by 10, but by 100, and our health would improve greatly.
